Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
There is no pre-set content. Students will identify their own research question based on work they complete in the Research Skills module and with the agreement of their supervisor.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
The Dissertation combines all the Learning Outcomes. Students will identify their own research question based on work they complete in the Research Skills module and carry out independent research with the support of a supervisor.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Students will begin work on their Dissertation with a draft research proposal that they have developed in the module Research Skills. In consultation with an allocated supervisor, students will plan a programme of work to complete the project in a timely way. This will involve carrying out further research, writing, and revising their work effectively. While most of this research will be carried out independently, students will be expected to update a record of their work in a Journal on Blackboard, where tutors can keep track of progress. Tutors will provide feedback on this at regular intervals, and as the work develops will provide feedback on drafts of the research project itself.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge relevant to themes and problems covered in the MA and an ability to apply this critically to a problem. Knowledge and understanding, Problem solving, Application.

2. Demonstrate the independent research skills required to advance their knowledge and understanding through a programme of independent research. Enquiry.

3. Demonstrate an ability to organise an independent project coherently and to communicate complex ideas clearly. Communication.
Reflection.

WEB DESCRIPTOR
This is your opportunity to develop a project that you have chosen yourself. You will work independently with the support of an allocated supervisor to develop an original piece of well researched and well evidenced writing which may address the material you’ve covered on the MA directly or take that material and apply it to gain new insights into a problem. As the work progresses you will develop valuable skills in research, managing a project, and communicating your ideas.
