Module Indicative Content
This module introduces you to the framework of the course and to the structures of Creative and Critical Thinking that underpin and will define your mode of study throughout the three year degree programme. This degree course implies that besides making photographs you will be required to demonstrate an understanding of how photographs are used in many varied and diverse ways as a form of visual communication. The module provides a basic introduction to the reading of photographs and to the skills which will enable you to research, evaluate and present information in both an effective and professional manner - skills on which the professional practice of art and design now depend.
You will learn the academic conventions employed at university level to organise information whether in written, verbal or visual forms and to the methods by which you can research, evaluate and communicate your interest in both the practice and history/theory of art and design, with particular focus on photography. You will learn how to use the Thompson Library, the Design Collection and external research resources through a photography based Study Trip. You will carry out a research-based specialist project and write a brief academic illustrated essay with the information collected.
Module Additional Assessment Details
