Module Indicative Content
This module provides an introduction to digital imaging skills, and the effective use of DSLR cameras. You will further build on skills learnt in the semester one module, Image Technologies 1, bringing digital 35mm SLR camera skills to an intermediate level. Through computing workshops you will be instructed in Adobe Photoshop CS3, stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. With the inherent complexity of the Adobe package it is imperative to establish an appropriate and consistent working method for print production, and therefore you will be considering what basic 'image adjustments' are essential to master in establishing a good photographic practice. These will include; Levels, Shadow and Highlight controls, Noise Reduction and Sharpening. There will be other workshops on the following; Calibration, Paper Profiles, Printing and Retouching.
This will enable you to begin to formulate and to make decisions about a more 'personalised' and constructive way of working. You will be taught through a mixture of lectures, technical instructions and workshop based deliveries. The technical instruction component to this module constitutes the Health and Safety prerequisites that allows you loan provision for the particular cameras covered.
