Module Indicative Content
This module gives you the opportunity to work using an editorial approach to Photojournalism, enabling you to identify visual strategies and editing skills that are necessary to create competent editorial images and stories. You will be introduced to the photographic studio and shown how to use basic studio lighting, both in the studio and on location. You will also be able to test out your acquired journalistic skills within the Newsroom.
For this module you will be asked to produce a set of images, a written article and an AV piece based around a portrait of a person. You will be asked to collaborate with others to produce an end story with a professional publication in mind. Your work should primarily address the visual message, but will need to consider the framework of how such images are contextualized by headline, caption and the written article itself. You will look at how `house styles' of magazines can help you explore the eventual shooting style you adopt.
The Editorial module will build and expand on basic journalistic skills learnt in The Introduction to Photojournalism module. This module will provide you with an introduction to video and sound skills used in today's Journalistic industry, preparing you to produce content for websites. Further key skills that are required by future employers, such as, skills in presentation, knowledge of specific technical soft and hardware, as well as working with in a team, will be encompassed within this module.
