A pictorial workbook evidencing picture-making strategies [Learning Outcomes 2,3].
An illustrated ethnographic study of an aspect of contemporary culture [Learning Outcome 3].
Module Indicative Content
We live in an environment surrounded by an array of sophisticated visual imagery that can be interpreted and read as visual texts. This module brings together photography and anthropology - the study of human society and culture - in an exploration of visual culture. Through examples of documentary photography and ethnographic film, you will be introduced to a variety of anthropological theories and methods. Knowledge of these will enable you to work with a deeper awareness and understanding of contemporary culture and differences from a visual perspective. You will be asked to photograph, research and write an ethnographic study about an aspect of contemporary life.
