Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures and tutorials = 11 hours
Disseminating and explaining the key aspects of the placement and matching aspirations to assessment requirements.

Individual & group tutorials
Providing guidance and support based on individual student need, feedback and aims.

Independent learning = 139 hours
Developing a grasp and contextual overview of the industry based on the learning experience of identifying and realising placement opportunities enhancing the learning outcome indicators of analysis, problem solving, communication, application and reflection. A minimum of 80 hours will be spent in the work placement itself. A notional 20 hours will be spent researching, identifying and negotiating placements and producing placement reports for assessment.

Students have leeway to use all or part of their placement time in either or across both semesters according to the availability of placement slots and class attendance.

You will present a body of coursework for assessment, including:

A short class presentation describing your research activities & placement experiences [Learning Outcomes 1,2,3,4,6 & 7]

A Portfolio of evidence including: placement confirmations and correspondence, supported by copies of cuttings/tear sheets- work produced during the placement. [Learning Outcomes 1,2,3,4,6 & 7]

Module Indicative Content
This module provides the opportunity to complete two weeks (80 hours) on professional work placement. You are encouraged to arrange placements with employers or organisations working in those areas of Photojournalism, journalism or allied fields which interest you as possible career options e.g. newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, websites, press offices, PR companies or departments and business to business periodicals, the organizations should use journalistic style photography strategically for their business. The placement work undertaken must relate specifically to the specialist area of Photojournalism.

You may carry out a single placement of 80 hours or a combination of placements adding up to 80 hours reflecting your range of interests. The module is self-directed with few classes including an introductory session at the end of level 1 (date and venue to be arranged), individual and group tutorial guidance, presentation advice and support throughout.
