INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module introduces the learner to the role that response policing plays in the delivery of a uniformed, visible police service in a local area. The importance of collaborative working at major scenes and other road policing issues will be examined. Delivery of the following topics is included:
Key types of incidents likely to be encountered by response and roads policing
Understanding how to deal with issues of vulnerability when attending the scene of an incident as a first responder
Joint operation between emergency services
Safe and lawful searches of person, vehicle and premises
Understanding and applying legislation relevant to public order policing
Concepts of policing the roads and relevant legislation and powers
The importance of evidence to reduce collisions and serious roads policing offences
The importance of recording decisions and assessing risk.
This module also introduces the learner to core principles of community policing and explain how community policing fits within the wider policing context including the principles of ethics, diversity, inclusion and human rights. Delivery of the following topics is included:
The core principles of community policing explaining how community policing fits within the wider policing context
The principles of ethics, diversity, inclusion and human rights
Challenging bias, prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping
Real and aspirational relationships between police, partners and the public and consider the importance and practicalities of community engagement and community-based problem solving.
Understanding the role of front-line policing in gathering intelligence that can combat terrorism
Public Protection definitions, legislation, initial police actions and partnership working are also incorporated.
Indicative content reflects the College of Policing National Policing Curriculum stipulated for delivery at level 4 of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship as follows:

Knowledge Check:
Consists of a single 50 question multiple choice test lasting 2 hours.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
Lectures, tutorials, and pre-prepared learning material facilitated through use of the Blackboard VLE and MS Teams, will be used, as appropriate, to develop learners and prepare them for the workplace. The delivery team will employ a range of learning and teaching methodologies which may include group work, problem-based learning, learner presentations, feedback, and online tutor/learner-led discussions. A blended approach to delivery will be taken and a mix of methods used for formative knowledge checks.
A module handbook and other detailed supportive material such as assessment briefings is available to learners and will set out requirements and expectations in more detail.
