Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This wide-ranging module enhances the learner’s understanding of police standards, professional conduct, organisational justice and culture, vulnerability and risk including youth gangs and people at risk of harm. In addition, it enhances the learner’s understanding of evidence-based policing, research methods and communication skills.

Indicative content includes the following:
Policies, policies and organisations concerned with ensuring professional standards and policing practice.
Examine why people fail to comply with policies, procedures and protocols and review previous instances of such behaviour.
Potential insider threat from within the police service and strategies to prevent it
Misuse of position of authority to commit sexual offences.
Organisational justice and strategies for dealing with organisational culture.
Team dynamics, team-building skills and strategies to enhance the individual and teams
Evaluation of what works in tackling repeat victimisation and repeat offending
Youth gangs and the targeting of vulnerable people
Organisational structures and inter-relationships in counter-terrorism policing
Potential constraints associated with evidence-based policing
How to obtain available evidence, how to conduct a systematic review and how to critically evaluate the available evidence
Planning research activities and awareness of research methodologies
Proficiency in academic writing in accordance with ethical protocols
Application of quantitative and quantitative research techniques, including interpretation of data
Theories and practices associated with communication in professional contexts
Process for conducting an operational briefing.
Indicative content reflects the College of Policing National Policing Curriculum stipulated for delivery at level 5 of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship as follows:

ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Oral Examination:
Will take the form of a 20-minute oral examination on a range of curriculum material.
Learning Outcomes 1 – 4.

Research Proposal:
Project proposal outlining initial ideas on the learner's final project. This should contain a summary of the background to the topic, a mini literature review, and an initial plan of work with appropriate risk assessment and ethical considerations.
Learning Outcomes 5 – 6.

LEARNING STARTEGIES
Lectures, tutorials, and pre-prepared learning material facilitated through use of the Blackboard VLE and MS Teams, will be used, as appropriate, to develop learners and prepare them for the workplace. The delivery team will employ a range of learning and teaching methodologies which may include group work, problem-based learning, learner presentations, feedback, and online tutor/learner-led discussions. A blended approach to delivery will be taken and a mix of methods used for formative knowledge checks.
A module handbook and other detailed supportive material such as assessment briefings is available to learners and will set out requirements and expectations in more detail.
