Module Additional Assessment Details
1. Case Work Presentation: Students will be required to individually prepare and present on a topic of their choice evaluating the impact of strategies, policy or practice that they have utilised in the workplace relevant to complex response, roads or community situations. Presentation will be delivered by a medium of the student’s choice and to an audience of peers and academic staff. The student will be questioned by a member of the teaching team – (LO’s 3 & 4).
2. Knowledge Test: Students will be required to take a knowledge test under examination conditions (1 hours) to test their knowledge and understanding of the key strategies, policy principles and evidence base for the conduct of response, roads and community policing in complex and challenging situations – (LO 1).
3. Reflective diary: Will allow the student to critically examine how social, political and strategic drivers impact upon contemporary roads, response and community policing. Students will show understanding of the topic and ability to critically consider how this could be linked to problem solving approaches. This assessment will address learning outcomes 2, 4 and 5.
Module Indicative Content
This is a core conditional module that can be taken by students wishing to specialise in response, roads and community policing. The module provides a broad but integrated delivery of core skills and knowledge relating to these areas of employment with the police.
This module incorporates all the learning outcomes and indicative content from the College of Policing, Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship Curriculum for the following areas:
Response Policing
1.1 to 3.5 inclusive
Policing the Roads
1.1 to 1.2 inclusive
Policing Communities
1.1 to 3.2 inclusive

The below is a brief summary of what the content includes:
• Examining specific challenges faced by response officers in more complex response situations.
• Understanding key social, political and strategic drivers impacting upon contemporary response policing.
• Strategies for how those involved in response policing can remain effective in increasingly challenging environment.
• Reviewing the evidence base associated with serious road policing offences and strategies associated with reducing the number of collisions.
• Critically evaluation a range of problem-solving approaches than can be applied to reduce community cohesion and promote community cohesion.
• Examining key emerging issues, problems or concerns faced by the community.
• Evaluating the impact of potential challenges to community policing and the future role of the community constable.
Module Learning Strategies
This module utilises blended learning strategies, including the delivery of lectures (face to face and distance), small group tutorial sessions, face to face and online peer discussion together with digitally aided independent study. A total of 40 hours protected learning time will delivered over the course of the first week followed by a period of operational deployment in a work area associated with response, roads and community policing. This period of operational deployment is utilised to undertake relevant work-based learning and guided independent study prior to completement of assessment at the end of the module.
Academic support (face to face and online) will be available throughout the module.
