Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This core conditional module provides the learner with advanced knowledge and understanding of complex investigation and/or intelligence management. The module provides a broad but integrated delivery of core skills and knowledge relating to these areas of employment with the police and focuses on areas, including use of the National Intelligence Model to manage local and force operations, covert investigations and the management of victims, witness, and suspects in complex investigations.

Indicative Content Intelligence:
Use of the National Intelligence Model and the ways that it shapes the delivery of objectives at a local, force and national level.
Examination of police operation(s) where information and intelligence were critical to the outcome, focusing on areas of good practice and areas of development.
Methods of evaluation used before, during and at the completion of policing operations
The strategic impact of data breaches on police forces.

Indicative Content Investigation:
The nature and types of complex investigation
Key legislation, including that relating to the disclosure of unused material dictated by CPIA 1996
Management of victims, witnesses and suspects involved in complex investigations
Identification and use of internal and external experts/resources available for use to assist with live and cold case complex investigations
Strategies that may be required to support the investigation such as use of media and mass screening
Use of covert policing techniques in complex investigations and
Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements.

Indicative content reflects the College of Policing National Policing Curriculum stipulated for delivery at level 6 of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship as follows:

ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Presentation
Students will be required to complete a 20-minute PowerPoint presentation that reviews and reflects upon a complex investigation that they have been involved in that considers the presentation of evidence, interviewing of witnesses, victims, and suspects showing comprehension of intelligence, legislation, policy, and approved practice.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
Lectures, tutorials, and pre-prepared learning material facilitated through use of the Blackboard VLE and MS Teams, will be used, as appropriate, to develop learners and prepare them for the workplace. The delivery team will employ a range of learning and teaching methodologies which may include group work, problem-based learning, learner presentations, feedback, and online tutor/learner-led discussions. A blended approach to delivery will be taken and a mix of methods used for formative knowledge checks.
A module handbook and other detailed supportive material such as assessment briefings is available to learners and will set out requirements and expectations in more detail.
