INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module meets the Care Certificate Standards: 1. Understanding you Role; 2. Your personal development.
This module is designed for learners that are new to higher education. You will be introduced to a range of learning strategies to help you learn independently such as searching for literature, developing action plans, academic writing and referencing and citation. In addition, skills such as the acquisition and dissemination of information using word processing, email, power point and presentation skills, as well as organising and managing time to maximise learning opportunities will also be provided. As part of the module the learners will be introduced to the nature of evidence / research and how to become critical thinkers.
By completing formative activities in the taught classroom sessions and directed online activity tasks, you will begin to identify your own strengths and weaknesses as a learner and build strategies that you will need to succeed in studying for the future. Tutor feedback will also be provided for each of these activities to support the final assessment preparation.
Respecting diversity, learners from all diverse backgrounds and perspectives be well supported in this module, students' learning will be addressed both in and out of class, and that the diversity that students bring to this class be viewed as a resource, strength and benefit. Learning materials and activities will be presented and delivered in such a manner that are respectful of diversity and learners’ individual identified needs.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
The assessment meets all the learning outcomes.
Reflective Report (1000 words). Reflect on academic and research skills, how these have developed throughout the module, student learning and challenges. Include an action plan for future academic and research skills improvement.
Formative assessments will take place throughout the module where learners will be applying the academic and research skills they have learned, get feedback by the tutor and then use this feedback along their own learning to prepare their reflective report and action plan.

80 hours: Independent reading - You will be expected to read the recommended reading, utilise the learning materials which you will have full access to via the learning platform including the world wide web and the library.
40 hours preparing formative assessments
45 hours summative assessment preparation
