Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module aims to
- develop your knowledge and understanding of factors contributing to the healthy individual within community
- help you consider the contexts in which individuals make health decisions and choices.

In order to achieve this aim the module content focuses on the following areas:

Normal Anatomy and Physiology:
The anatomy and physiology of bodily systems, their organisation and achievement of homeostasis. Systems include cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, nervous, gastrointestinal, lymphatic and reproductive.

Normal Human Development:
Normal physical, psychological and social human development across the lifespan

Individual health and wellbeing
Introduction to the psychology and sociology of health
Key determinants of health
The impact of culture, religion and spiritual beliefs on health and illness
Gender, sexuality and health

Public Health and Health Promotion
Students will be introduced to the following:
The nature of community and it's impact on individual health
Contemporary public health and health policy
Models and concepts of health, illness and disability
Health assessment and health promotion with individuals and communities
Healthy lifestyles and indicators of unhealthy lifestyles

Single submission
PPT presentation of 16 slides (excl references and title page)
Or
2 single sided A1 posters with word count limit of 2000 - one A4 page of references to be on front of poster additional pages may be on reverse side.

Outline the anatomy and physiology of one of the given strands.
And.
Discuss the impact of one of the health factors from the list and how this may affect health through the lifespan.

You must include reference to national policies and strategies, the role of the health professional and health promotion.

You should avoid focussing on the patho-physiological aspects of a disease process.

Formative assessment will be through Blackboard based activities, responding to questions and peer reviewing feedback on the discussion forum or self assessed multiple choice quizzes.
