ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A 1500-word essay analysing the health and social care services available for a specific case study provided for the assessment to meet learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the module (weighted 100%).



Case Study



Lan is a 74-year-old Chinese woman, originally from Hong Kong, who has lived in the UK since 1964. Detailed Case Study Provided. Student encouraged to reflect on following questions.

Students might consider:

What services might be available to Lan?

How might the carer approach the situation in terms of working with Lan to ensure her well-being and recovery?

What approaches to engage Lan might the carer want to use and why?

What policy and guidance would the carer need to consider?

Are there any ethical factors that the care should consider?
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The VLE Blackboard will provide a structured framework for the delivery of this module. A blended learning approach is adopted, which consists of directed and independent study. Recognising the importance of building diversity and inclusion into course design a range of teaching methods will be offered recognising the diversity of student learning needs. Class discussions will actively seek to decolonise the curriculum, challenging traditional knowledge hierarchies and building in participatory approaches to learning.



The module is designed to allow some flexibility in approach to remain responsive to student’s identified needs, but activity will broadly consist of the following:



Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (30 hours)

On campus and virtual seminars incorporating key academic skills

Formative individual and group tasks and activities

Contributions to Blackboard Learning Journal and Blogs

Completion of career planning activity and skills audits
Tutorial support (both group and individual)

This module is an opportunity for students to consider, debate and discuss the political context of health and social care and to critically debate how government influences services and communities to promote well-being. The module will consider the individuals role in health and social care and topics studied will include: - current debates in health and social policy, theoretical perspectives in health and social policy and models of welfare critically debate the opportunities and challenges of Integrated Care. Local, national and global perspectives will be explored.

- the role and function of the National Health Service, local authority and private/charity sectors in providing care and supporting carer.

This module is intended to support the development of knowledge and¿understanding of the broad nature of the health and social care sector. Students¿will have the opportunity to explore the impact of political, organisational, social¿
and economic factors on the health and social care sector from local, national and global perspectives, consider the legal and ethical frameworks informing the sector and identify the challenges and¿opportunities relating to inter-professional practice.¿This module will develop an awareness of the values, knowledge and skills that¿operate within the health and social care context.
