Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module meets the Care Certificate Standards: 3. Duty of Care; 10. Safeguarding Adults; 11. Safeguarding Children

This module will introduce students to the notion of safeguarding of adults and children. It will develop the learning by starting with key legislation and examine why these were enacted by parliament such as the 2004 Children Act and Victoria Climbie. It will look at the Care Act 2014 as it sets out a legal framework for how local authorities and other parts of the system should protect adults at risk of abuse or neglect. It will examine several high-profile case reviews (such as Steven Hoskin, Daniel Pelka, etc), safeguarding vulnerable adults and child protection, tracking the development of policy and practice from the recommendations of these case reviews. The module will examine safeguarding within the broader context of health and social care, critically examining how integrated care can support or hinder safeguarding policy and practice.

The innovative module delivery together with the assessment will equip you with the strategic agility and competencies to support your career advancement within safeguarding and help you develop the skills and confidence to begin work in the safeguarding field.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Case Study. Examine current safeguarding policy and legislation in relation to the health and social care of either adults or children and examine how you might apply this to a case study individual care plan.

The students will have a choice of adult or children’s case study.

The assessment meets all the learning outcomes.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The VLE Blackboard will provide a structured framework for the delivery of this module. A blended learning approach is adopted, which consists of directed and independent study. As a proactive approach to building equality and inclusion into course design a range of learning strategies will be employed to encourage students to learn using a range of creative learning approaches. Participatory and creative approaches are positive learning methodologies when seeking to decolonise the curriculum (Smith, 2014) Simulated Workshops will offer students engaging learning opportunities to examine case studies using forum theatre learning techniques.

The module is designed to allow some flexibility in approach to remain responsive to students’ varying and diverse identified needs, but activity will broadly consist of the following:
