Assessment Details
45 minute MCQ Exam
This exam will assess the student’s knowledge and understanding of the factors that impact on healthcare practitioners working within a secure environment, utilising a case study approach to assess their ability to problem solve an apply solutions in practice 100% 45 mins
Students will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding identifying risks and will be assessed how they will apply problem-solving skills to possible scenarios to demonstrate how they would be able to minimise such risks within secure environments.
Indicative Content
Students will be provided with on- line learning resources via Blackboard in the weeks prior to the study days at the end of the Module. These resources will be provided by both University Tutors and Care UK Trainers and will include training materials, activities and formative feedback. The on-line resources will also support mandatory in-house training such as Care UKs ‘PROTECT’ programme.
The content of the Module will include recognising the dangers within the following areas
Reception Screening
Substance Misuse
Alcohol Dependency, including poly\pharmacy
Mental Health Toolkit
Suicide and Self harm risk and how to undertake a Suicide Risk Assessment
Conditioning
Compassion fatigue
Working with marginal\vulnerable groups
Developing appropriate communication skills
Professionalism within a secure environment
The students will have to attend two Study days where they will utilise a case study approach to learn and identify the risks of working in a secure environment, in order to provide a high quality of care to those detained in such environments.
Learning Strategies
Students will learn through a blended learning programme of on-line learning resources and workshops. The on-line resources will include organisational learning materials to familiarise the students with the working practices of Care UK and what is expected of health care practitioners working with a Care UK Secure Environment, along with learning materials to enable to students to be successful in their MCQ. Students will also be able to undertake practice MCQ papers. 125 Hours
The 2 Study Days will include face to face teaching and utilise case studies to examine issues which will allow students to practice problem-solving skills to identify and apply solutions in practice. 25 Hours
