This module provides the knowledge and skill you will require to lead and manage change within the health and social care settings.. You will explore:
The political, legislative and social context of leadership and management
Contemporary leadership theories and leadership qualities
Awareness of learner’s own leadership style
Working with others
Key management theories and decision making
Leading and managing conflict and change, including conflict and change management theories
Resource management and budgeting
Project management in the workplace
Simulated activities and invited guest lectures on key leadership and management topics will enhance this module
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
20-minutes oral presentation using PowerPoint identifying how you would initiate, lead and manage a small community project (weighted 100% to meet all learning outcomes)
You will choose ONE of 3 projects given as case scenarios to base your presentation upon; these will be discussed in group tutorial sessions within class to assist you decide which scenario you will choose for the assessment.
Formative guidance and feedback will be provided in tutorial sessions within the class
This module uses simulation to bring management and leadership theory to life, students will assume a leadership role in developing a community service based on a choice of the three above scenarios. As part of the project development, activities will include a community audit identifying what services are available their selected scenario, where gaps in provision may exist in light of local priorities and need and identify potential funding sources.
Guided group work in class will assist you in following the key steps in developing your community project and integrating key leadership and management theories to meet all learning outcomes.
Information on how to undertake presentations will be provided in class and academic skills advisors will be available to guide and advise on how to undertake effective PowerPoint presentations

This module provides you with the opportunity to apply the understanding of health and social care topics you have developed over the course to matters of leadership and management. It will cover key theories of leadership and management, including management and change and conflict, innovation, decision making, teamwork and project management. Over the course of the module, you will explore how these theories can be applied to practical issues within health and social care environments. Through a combination of lectures and group tasks you will be able to consider your own style of leadership and how this might be applied in your future working roles. Simulated activities and invited guest lectures on key leadership and management topics will enhance this module.
