INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module will facilitate the evaluation of teaching practice within the workplace from planning a teaching session, through to its delivery and evaluation. This will enable consideration of alignment between planning and delivery across the learning journey. The module also considers the complexity of approaches to teaching in healthcare, including the variety of different types of learning context. The module will also address the diversity of learner characteristics and matters of equality and inclusion. The opportunity is therefore provided to critically reflect upon and evaluate various approaches utilised within teaching practice such as lectures, group work, one-to-one supervision, virtual platforms, and simulation.
The module examines underpinning theories and concepts associated with teaching and learning. It will explore how these theory/concepts can be integrated with evaluations to sharpen knowledge and understanding of practical teaching delivery. It will also consider the role of education in supporting wider organisational aims.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A 4,000-word critical analysis of an educational session that has been led by the student in their workplace.
Weighted 100%.
The assignment will demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes for this module.
The assignment should include the rationale for each stage of the teaching session from planning learning outcomes, and justification of the teaching methods utilised, through to the evaluation of the session. Each of these stages should be integrated with relevant educational theory and concepts.
Formative guidance will be provided in Blackboard forums, email and MS Teams/telephone tutorials.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The primary learning strategy utilised within this module is independent learning. The foundation and direction for your learning will be through the virtual learning environment, Blackboard. This will direct you to the key content and theoretical concepts. This provides a platform for your independent reading and reflection upon how the theory can be applied to your own teaching practice.
A variety of sources will be utilised, including narrated PowerPoint Presentations as well as more interactive activities such as identification of your own learning style, formative quizzes, article critique, and online discussion forums.
Your practical experience of teaching in health or social care settings will be the basis for reflection and discussion in the online discussion forums; you will be encouraged to reflect on your teaching strategies and student feedback.
