Module Additional Assessment Details
Production of a Plan of Work - Word Limit 5000 Words.
The Plan of Work will include critical evaluation and justification of planning models selected, a discussion on the realities of supervision and a clear plan of work to be undertaken.
Module Indicative Content
This module will guide the student through the admission processes that a student embarking on a research degree undertakes. The student will work with their supervisor and develop plan of work. Whilst this will encompass a degree of flexibility it will give an overview of the pertinent literature and give the framework of a project the student wishes to complete. This will be the first piece of work that will frame the project the student will have to complete. Indicative content of the module will include: becoming a doctorate student, surviving the process, revisiting supervision, managing your supervision, institutional arrangements, myths and realities of supervision and the plan of work, psychological aspects of planning, practical considerations, problem solving, decision analysis, dealing with the "success" of others, developing a plan of work, the need to plan, planning strategies, determining objectives, activities, activity ordering, time allocation, resources and scheduling, re-planning, making progress explicit, research milestones.
Module Learning Strategies
Two half day workshops (8 hours) , group seminars (14 hours), individual meetings (2 hours), directed reading and independent learning activities.
