Module Additional Assessment Details
1. A written assignment (80%) totalling 3000 words, (addressing LO' 1-3) comprising:

a. A pastoral letter, address or outline of a shared textual study that is centred upon a particular religious text, interpreted in relation to a presenting practical issue in health or social care
b. An analysis of the interpretative strategy used, and a defence of its results

2. A presentation (20%) totalling 20 minutes, of which 10 minutes is group discussion led by the student. (addressing LO 4) The content of the presentation should contribute to the fulfilment of the written exercise in (1)

Both elements of assessments must be passed

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
For formative purposes, students will be assessed on their contribution to group discussion and shared problem-solving tasks. Feedback will be given at 2-3 points during the module

Module Indicative Content
This module recognizes the importance of `sacred texts' in religious traditions and personal spirituality, and seeks to equip students to work constructively with them in an appropriate context. Content will include:

An exploration of the relationship between literacy, writing and religion as manifested in the range of ways in which `sacred texts¿ are generated and recognized.

Analysis of a selection of genres (e.g. narrative, precept, polemic) and the opportunities they offer to interpreters

Consideration of the range of contexts (personal, ritual, practical, intellectual) in which sacred texts are deployed and the ways in which such contexts condition their interpretation and reception

Evaluating rival interpretations of given texts for their pathological or therapeutic potential
