Module Indicative Content
The nature of professional education is constantly changing; professionals need to ensure that they are up to date in their knowledge and practice in order to maintain current registration through re-validation and continuing professional development. This module enables students to look at current national and professional documentation in relation to healthcare education and provides an opportunity to explore how these might impact in the workplace setting, thus contributing to CPD requirements.
The module considers influences such as diversity, leadership and multi-professional learning as well as social factors that may have an effect on learners in practice.
There will be an opportunity for students to reflect upon and explore pertinent issues to their own practice.
Module Learning Strategies
Contact hours: (18)
14 hours taught sessions; 7 hours lectures / 4 hours workshop / 3 hours peer led sessions
4 hours tutorial time; 2 hours workshop type; 2 hours individual

Learning activities will include a variety of teaching methods including experiential, seminar, case study and small group work. Peer led discussions will be encouraged in order to share experience, knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues within the workplace whilst also assisting in the application of theory to the students' own area of practice.

32 hours independent study and directed reading
30 hours preparation for the taught sessions
50 hours assignment preparation

Blackboard will be utilised for students to receive information about the module, i.e. handbooks, presentations, useful information, and for students to gain tutor and peer support through the discussion forum


Module Additional Assessment Details
A 3000 WORD critical case study analysis of a pertinent issue to ones' own practice setting. Weighted 100%.
The assignment will demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes for this module.

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
The assignment should address an area of concern / development / advancement in the students own area of practice which considers a contemporary issue applicable to education in the healthcare setting. Tutor support to assist in the development of an assignment topic will be essential.
