Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to develop knowledge and understanding of the diverse ways in which leadership is understood to contribute to healthcare organisations- development and management during transition, transformation and change often in turbulent and highly politicised environments. This module explores leadership beyond individual practice to identify how leadership is linked to decision-making in organisations, health systems and beyond.
The module content includes:
Defining and characterising the leadership concept.
Examining the leadership in the context healthcare organisation
Decision - making in health services and healthcare organisations
The impact of leadership capacity on organisational outcomes
Leadership and change

In addition to key texts and research and policy literature (research papers and reports), a series of case studies from the health care sector will be used to explore the dynamic between forms of leadership and organisational processes and outcomes.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An assignment length 3500 words weighted at 100%.

This meets all the learning outcomes.
Students will be required to undertake a comparative analysis of the health care leadership issues that have contributed to the situation described in two case studies provided.
A review of relevant literature related to leadership in health systems, services or organisations will be required to demonstrate the application of theoretical knowledge and critical analysis.
This assessment will include the student demonstrating a reflection on contextual and organisational factors in addition to leadership styles and decision-making

Case studies will be used throughout the module to enable group discussion via the discussion board with peers and tutors to support learning and enable feedback.
Individual tutorial feedback of an assignment draft will also be available.
