Module Additional Assessment Details
A 3000 WORD critical analysis of a lesson plan that has been utilised in the delivery of a teaching session in the students' workplace. Weighted 100%.
The assignment will demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes for this module
Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
The assignment should indicate the rationale for each stage of the teaching session from planning learning outcomes of the session to justification of the teaching methods utilised to the final evaluation of the teaching undertaken in relation to salient educational theory.
Formative guidance will be provided in Blackboard forums, email or telephone tutorials
Module Indicative Content
The module will guide and analyse the application of teaching practice within the workplace from planning a teaching session through to its delivery and to its final evaluation, thus ensuring that the method of teaching is matched with the desired intent. This module also considers the challenges to teaching in the workplace where the environment cannot always be predicted and teaching sometimes has to be amended.
The module examines the underpinning theory associated with teaching practice including setting learning outcomes and constructive alignment. There will be opportunity to critically reflect upon and evaluate various approaches utilised within teaching practise such as lecture, problem based learning, group work, and simulation, as well as the use of humanities, metaphor and humour within teaching. Models related to the evaluation of teaching will also be considered.
Module Learning Strategies
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activies: (2 hours)

The primary learning strategy utilised within this module is independent learning. The foundation and direction for your learning will be through the virtual learning environment, Blackboard, where you will be directed to the main theoretical concepts that you need to study although you will be expected to progress your knowledge through independent reading and reflection on how the theory can be applied in your own teaching and learning practice.
A variety of teaching methods will be utilised to include lead lectures, delivered through podcasts, and self directed PowerPoint presentations as well as more interactive activities such as identification of your learning style, formative quizzes, article critique, and online discussion forums.
The practical experience of teaching in the healthcare setting that you bring will be the basis for reflection and discussion in the online discussion forums; you will be encouraged to reflect on your teaching strategies and student feedback.
