INDICATIVE CONTENT
Over 12 weeks you will focus on what is meant by research and the differing approaches including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. You will be guided in the steps needed to undertake peer reviewed research (literature review, methods, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion) within an ethical framework. Gender, culture, white privilege, and the open research community will be debated to assist you with situating your research within your arena. You will be supported to identify an area of research that you are interested in and create a research plan. This module will aid you in your dissertation or project module as part of the final year.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Formative
Select 5 papers related to a theme within simulation based education in relation to quality improvement or safety in your workplace that you are interested in and write a literature review of 1500 words and create at least one research question (RQ).
Links to learning outcomes (LO) 1 by reviewing peer reviewed papers and writing a literature review. This will highlight the skills of critically evaluating research that are linked to LO2.
Summative
You are seeking funding from Staffordshire Simulated Research Fund* to undertake a small project 6-9 months relating to simulation for quality improvement or safety in your workplace. You may draw on the work in the formative assessment. Please complete the research proposal form which has headings and word allowances for you to complete .You will be asked to submit in the Appendices examples of the consent form and participation information sheets that will be counted as part of the assignment marks.
*Staffordshire Simulated Research Fund does not exist and is being used as the template and process for this assessment
Links to LO1 ,2 and 3 as by completing the research proposal form the learners will demonstrate all the skills needed to complete a research form including a literature review, methods and ethical and sharing of findings. Students will need to justify their choices based on their skills of critically reading and evaluating research methods and methodologies and this links to LO1, 2, and 3.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Blackboard Ultra will be used as the learning management system (LMS)
Distance learning using synchronous and asynchronous tools including Microsoft (MS) Office Suite of Tools, specifically MS Teams, MS Sway, MS SharePoint, MS Stream, and Flip, Wakelet and CAE Learning Space.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Critically review research to inform your professional practice in relation to simulation based education
2. Critically evaluate simulation based education methodologies to undertake evidence – based research including literature review, methods, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion within an ethical framework
3. Create and justify a research proposal to investigate an area of simulation based education.
RESOURCES
All students need to have access to a computer device (not supplied by the University) and internet access.
