Indicative Content
This module focuses on the core theoretical models. Emphasis is placed on person-centred theory and how it informs and underpins practice. Participants will explore the appropriateness of different styles and methods of counselling approaches applied to working therapeutically with children and young people. Solution Focused Brief Therapy and the appropriateness and value of using an integrative approach are also discussed. This module also supports candidates in developing research and study skills including academic writing and referencing.
Assessment Details
Summative – Essay: 2, 500 words (Weighted at 100%) (LO 1 - 5).
Students will be asked to write a 2,500-word essay on key ideas and concepts of the Person-Centred counselling model. They will compare this model to other counselling models including SFBT and
explain how the key concepts of each model are used to facilitate the process of counselling children
and young people. Students will also evaluate the appropriateness of using an Integrative approach.
Formative – Q and A, discussion, peer evaluation and feedback, self-evaluation, reflective journal,
role-play, quiz, presentation, debate.
