Indicative Content
This module offers an introduction to the basic skills which are essential in initiating, maintaining and concluding a counselling relationship with children and young people. Participants will be provided with the opportunity to practise these skills in a safe and facilitative environment. Participants will be introduced to various therapeutic interventions such as Sand-play therapy, Art therapy and Play therapy as well as a variety of other creative interventions. Candidates will also develop skills in reflective practice.
Assessment Details
Summative: Two Parts
1 x 30 min audio tape demonstrating Person-centred counselling skills (weighted at 0%) pass/fail
A 1,500 words critical evaluation of own performance including reference to a transcript of tape weighted at 50 % (LO 1 - 3)
1 x 30 min video tape demonstrating two creative interventions for working with children and young people (weighted at 0%) pass/fail.
A 1,000 words critical evaluation of own performance weighted at 50%
Formative – Q and A, discussion, peer evaluation and feedback, self-evaluation, reflective journal,
role-play, quiz, presentation, debate, Profile of formal and informal feedback sheets from peers and tutors.
