Module Details
Indicative Content
This module focuses on the professional, legal and ethical issues that underpin good counselling practice. Safeguarding, codes of practice, contracts, boundaries, ethical referral and other related topics are explored. This module supports candidates in developing an understanding of professional issues and boundaries involved with working with children and young people in a counselling placement. Participants will also explore the roles and responsibilities of the counselling supervisor and how they might be best supported in the supervision process.
Assessment Details
Summative: A simulated interview and self-reflection – weighted at 100%

A simulated placement interview will assess student’s knowledge and understanding of professional issues within counselling children and young people (LO 1-3).

Students will have an opportunity to participate in an individual interview and respond to questions related to professional issues within counselling children and young people. They will be allocated a minimum of ten minutes to respond to questions.

Students may take written notes of up to 1,000 words into the interview and may refer to these to support their responses; however, they may not read directly from their notes during the interview. (Any notes taken into the interview must be submitted with the assignment, however these notes will not be assessed).

Students will submit a 500-word self-reflection of their interview experience including strengths and weaknesses. (LO 1 – 3).

Formative – Mock interview, Q and A, discussion, peer evaluation and feedback, self-evaluation, reflective journal, role-play, quiz, debate, research and presentations.
