50% - tutor marked workbook taking self and peer-assessment scores into account. (Learning Outcomes 2-4)

Formative learning
Work Book exercises based an individual?s journey through life (from birth to old age).
The exercises in the workbook will be designed to promote enquiry and independent learning (Learning Outcome 4) as well as the ability to use some knowledge of psychological perspectives and principles to understand some real life issues (Learning outcomes 2 & 3).
Module Indicative Content
The module will look at aspects of development over the life-span by following the development of a fictional person?s journey from birth to death. The module aims to connect ideas behind research in developmental psychology to real life issues. The issues covered both through lectures and workshops will include infancy and day care, the effects of marital break-up on cognitive and social development in childhood, body image in adolescence, parenting, and issues of ageing and bereavement.
Module Learning Strategies
12 x 1 hour Lectures - 12 - to introduce key concepts and develop listening and note-taking skills
6 x 2 hour Workshops - 12 - developing group work and presentation skills. The workshops will be closely linked to the Workbooks, preparing students for, and giving them feedback on, Workbook exercises.
Guided Reading - 30 hours - developing independent learning skills, including taking personal responsibility for learning
Guided Literature Search -15 hours - developing key search skills, including IT skills
Problem Based Workbook - 51 hours - developing independent learning and including reflection and integration. Regular feedback on Workbook exercises (including multiple choice questions, literature search, and set questions requiring application of theories learnt) will be provided through tutor guided self & peer assessment and feedback.
Assessment Preparation - 30 hours (including completing Workbook exercises and preparing for mock exam workshop session)
