Module Indicative Content
This module will explore key applications of introductory theory and research into child development. Class sessions will explore application of theory and research in four main areas- the physical, social, cognitive and emotional development of the child. The module will begin with an exploration of the physical changes during childhood and will consider associated issues of child health and well-being. The social development of children, including the ability to understand 'other minds', will be introduced, the importance of play evaluated and the role of the family and its importance in the social development of children will be considered. The applications of cognitive development will be introduced though a consideration of children's language development, it's role in literacy, the representation of ideas through children's drawing and an exploration of divergent thinking in children.
