This module will include:
Health Education/Health Promotion
Approaches to Health Education
Government initiatives and current practice
Causes of ill health - genetic, micro-biological, environmental
Prevention of ill health - immunisation, screening, diet and exercise
Socio-economic factors affecting health
Common childhood illnesses - chronic, acute, long term
Effects of ill health on all aspects of behaviour/development
Supporting the needs of family/relatives in dealing with the sick child
Roles and responsibilities of Early Years workers - informing parents, care, medication, care settings
Module Additional Assessment Details
Written Assignment - 2000 words
Briefly discuss the main causes of ill health in children. Analyse the need for health education and outline health promotion to maintain/improve health of children and families in an Early Years setting. Choose a chronic or genetic disorder (eg Juvenile onset diabetes, asthma, cystic fibrosis) and describe the treatment and care routine for a child with this condition. Explore the impact of the condition on the child and their family. (Learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4)
