Critical analysis of current definitions on ranges of abuse
Analysis of current legislative documents relating to new practices in child protection
Extensive discussion on a wide range of issues surrounding this module
Group work providing verbal/written conclusions from extensive discussion
Application of theory to practice in written and verbal format
Research in small groups, strategies to support parents and families
Guest Speakers - representatives from the following (or other related appropriate organisations): NSPCC, ACPU, Staffordshire Police Child Protection Unit

Module Additional Assessment Details
Written Assignment 1500-2000 words (100%) (Learning Outcomes 1-4)

Discuss how child abuse, actual or suspected, would be dealt with within your workplace. Include strategies for supporting staff, children and their families and evaluate the influence of current policies and procedures on Child Protection in Early Years settings.


Module Indicative Content
This module will include:
The range/types/identification of abuse
Good Practice in child care settings (including staff practices/discipline etc)
Multi-professional team (inc CPU)
Reporting procedure for childcare practitioners (inc best practice in settings)
Disclosure
Supporting children and families involved within situations of abuse
Theoretical models of abuse
Attitudes towards abuse (eg being non judgemental, offering support and so on)
Supporting staff members following issues surrounding abuse
