Module Additional Assessment Details
There are 2 assessed components within this module; i) an essay weighted at 50% and ii) a class test weighted at 50%.
i) An essay (1500 words), demonstrating the understanding and application of some of the key concepts in psychology. Learning outcomes 2 & 3.
ii) A class test comprised of short essay answers covering the key topics covered during the module and multiple choice questions assessing the biological psychology content. The class test will be 1.5 hours in duration. Learning outcome 1.
Formative Assessment/Feedback:
Formative learning and feedback will be provided through tasks and activities incorporated into the seminars and tutoriials e.g. through class based discussions. Formative feedback will also be available for essay plans, writing tasks and for practice class test questions.

Module Indicative Content
This module will introduce students to the key areas within psychology; individual differences (personality and intelligence), social, developmental, cognitive and biological psychology. The basic principles, theories and concepts will be introduced to inform students understanding of the multiple perspectives that can be used to understand and evaluate real life situations. For example;
How does learning and memory influence our everyday lives?
What influences child development?
Why do people behave differently in groups?
What influences our attitudes?
Why do people encounter prejudice?
What is intelligence?

Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered through lectures, seminars and tutorials. Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: Weekly 2 hour tutor-led lectures will introduce theoretical approaches and key concepts. Weekly 2 hour tutor-led seminars will support the lectures through further exploration of content-specific information and development of key skills. Weekly 1 hour tutorials will assist with the development of academic and study skills, as well as providing regular opportunities for individual discussion and reflection.
