Module Additional Assessment Details
There is ONE element of assessment for this module. A REFLECTIVE ESSAY (100%) which must include an accompanying DVD to show evidence of skills practice.
A 1500 word ESSAY to demonstrate understanding, application and reflection on the use of effective counselling skills (LOs 1 & 3). To demonstrate achievement of LO 2, as an essential part of this assessment, students must also submit a DVD containing satisfactory evidence of skills practice.
Formative Assessment/Feedback:
Students will practice active listening skills and observation skills, within class sessions, and will be given feedback by peers and staff. Formative feedback will be available on essay plans.
Module Indicative Content
This module offers an opportunity for students to develop core counselling skills and personal awareness. There is an introductory lecture, exploring `what is counselling?' Subsequent sessions use experiential exercises in large and small groups to explore self awareness and ethical dimensions. Students will work in small groups to develop their skills and reflective practice. Some sessions will involve recording interactions within the counselling facilities.
