1. Demonstrate knowledge and a rationale for the use of active listening skills (Knowledge and Understanding)

3. Evaluate how personal thoughts, feelings and beliefs influence your use of counselling skills (sga 12)

ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
There are three elements of assessment for this module.
1. A 1,500 word ESSAY (100%) to demonstrate understanding, application and reflection on the use of counselling skills. (LO 1 and 3)

2. A log of a tutor assessed skills session showing satisfactory evidence of skills practice (graded as pass/fail, 0%) (LO 2)

3. A minimum of 75% attendance on the module (graded as pass/fail, 0%) (LO 2)

All elements of assessment must be passed in order to pass the module.

Formative Assessment/Feedback:
Students will practice active listening skills and observation skills, within class sessions, and will be given feedback by peers and staff. Formative feedback will be available on essay plans.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module offers an opportunity for students to develop core counselling skills and personal awareness. There is an introductory lecture, exploring `what is counselling?' Subsequent sessions use experiential exercises in large and small groups to explore self awareness and ethical dimensions. Students will work in small groups to develop their skills and reflective practice. Some sessions will involve recording interactions within the counselling facilities.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: Three hours of weekly class contact will incorporate lectures to include theoretical approaches and workshop activity to incorporate experiential learning, as well as skills practice in small and large groups. Students will also be required to do some guided independent study (111 hours). Students will receive regular formative feedback on skills practice and have at least 4 hours module/assessment preparation sessions.
