Presentation of 20mins duration with a further 10 minutes for questions on one named illness / disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM 5) - including proposed treatment and support and a suggested intervention plan. (100 %) (addressing LO's 1 - 4)

Formative - Q and A, discussion, peer evaluation and feedback, self-evaluation, reflective journal, quiz, presentation, debate, work-sheets, role-play.

- Biological basis of some mental health issues - including genetic disposition
- Psychological models of understanding mental health and mental health issues
- Sociological models of understanding including family, environment, finance, employment,
Contextual issues.
- Nature versus nurture
- Knowledge of DSM 5
- Roles of psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, GPs, Social Workers etc and referral processes
- Awareness of behaviours that may indicate mental health issues
- Issues involved when working with clients on prescribed drugs.
- Counsellor abilities and limitations
