MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of diversity within the 21st century.¿
2. Evaluate and interpret concepts and principles of possible issues of power and oppression and develop lines of argument as to how these could impact the therapeutic relationship.¿

ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A verbally presented 30-minute Presentation in small groups based on material researched on a subject relevant to culture and diversity, including how your subject impacts on the therapeutic relationship. The 30 minutes will be broken down as follows: 5 minutes prep time, 20 minutes presenting, 10 minutes Q&A (assessing learning outcomes 1 & 2)

A 1,000-word assignment analysing your presentation experiences and learning from your chosen subject (assessing learning outcomes 1 & 2)

A 1,500 word Personal Development Profile (PDP) (assessing learning outcomes 2 & 3)



In addition, as per professional accreditation requirements, all modules require 100% attendance at the scheduled sessions.
All elements must be passed.

INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module, which is integrated into each workshop in the first year, will focus on the practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy in a multicultural and diverse society. The learning in this module will raise awareness of power and oppression within relationships. Social and cultural conditioning relating to areas such as poverty, education, sex, gender, race, class, disability, religion or belief, age and sexuality, neurodiversity, climate change and decolonisation will be explored in terms of student’s own experiences.

Indicative Content may include the following topics:
