INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module focuses on the core theoretical models. Emphasis is placed on person-centred theory and how it informs and underpins practice. You will explore the appropriateness of different styles and methods of counselling approaches applied to working therapeutically with children and young people. Solution Focused Brief Therapy and the appropriateness and value of using an integrative approach are also discussed. This module also supports you in developing research and study skills including academic writing and referencing.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
You are required to write an essay on the key ideas and concepts of the person-centred counselling model. You will compare these concepts to key ideas and concepts in other counselling models including Solution
Focused Brief Therapy. You will explain how the key concepts of the person-centred model are used to facilitate the process of counselling children and young people. You will also evaluate the appropriateness of using an integrative approach (LO1, LO2, LO3).
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Learning strategies may include interactive lectures and skills practice sessions which consist of workshops, discussions, group-work, role-play, and individual tutorials. Reflection and reflective practice along with critical thinking will also be a key element of the programme in to facilitate professional learning. Independent study time includes researching, reading and reflection as well as assignment preparation.
