Module Indicative Content
The module will consider a range of topics within organisational psychology. Students will review current psychological contributions towards understanding how organisations make selection decisions and how they assess and train their employees. Psychological research into working environments and the positive and negative effects of employer and employee practices will also be considered, and students will have opportunities to discuss and debate these ideas, and reflect on their own relevant experiences and views to form opinions about the relative worth and merit of particular approaches. Psychological research into aspects of performance, productivity, motivation and job satisfaction will be addressed, and the applicability of psychology to improving working conditions and productivity will be reviewed. Features of individual and group working in organisations will also be considered, including the nature and the effects of occupational stress, and the personal and economic impact of stress on both organisations and individual employees.

Students will be given information about a company and their employees and will be asked to apply psychological theories and knowledge to demonstrate the understanding of the issues in the case study, and to make recommendations for change to improve the organisation's productivity and employee wellbeing.
Students will be given opportunities in class for formative learning, including the analysis of a practice case study.
