Module Indicative Content
The module covers:
Study of the aims and characteristics of the Curricula Frameworks for children 0 ? 8yrs and will include the following topics:
Principles, theoretical perspectives and models influencing the development of curricula in the Early Years
How young children learn and develop
Providing an appropriate environment to meet the needs of children aged 0-3yrs, 3-5yrs and in KS1
Planning, observing and assessing children's learning and development
Transitions during the early years
Working in partnership with parents
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures, videos and directed reading will build upon students' prior knowledge of theories and practical experience, which will then be applied in seminars and work- based tasks. Tasks may include:
Focused observations of children engaged in activities to provide material for seminar discussion
Observation and evaluation of specific resources or play areas
Involvement in curriculum planning activities
Tracking and recording individual children's progress
Analysis of a range of strategies used by the adult to support children's learning

1. Open book, timed essay (50%)
2. A work-based information booklet 2000 words (50%)

ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS:

1. A 2 hour timed essay to critically analyse how a specified type of play provision can be used to meet the developmental and learning needs of children in EACH of the age ranges 0-3 yrs, 3-5 yrs AND 5-7 yrs with reference to the appropriate curriculum frameworks. ( Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4)
2. Prepare a document to inform EITHER Parents OR Staff how you provide for and support the children's learning and development in ONE area of the curriculum in your Early Years setting (Learning outcomes 1,2,3,4,5)
