INDICATIVE CONTENT
Within the BSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy you are required to undertake two years of placement learning within a secure clinical placement with appropriate clinical supervision. This module is an assessment of your practice in your placement setting, learning within supervision, and your ongoing development via your personal therapy and journal reflections.
Placement learning is a central component of your training to become a Humanistic and Integrative therapist. Your Placement Provider and Supervisor will provide reports at the end of the year commenting on your professional development. You will be required to complete a clinical log detailing client hours, issues worked with and key learning from supervision.
Indicative Content may include:
• Student’s own intrapsychic process
• Student’s own interpersonal process
• Personal reflection
• Application of theory to practice
LEARNING STRATEGIES
• Group process – 14 hours
• Experiential and theoretical learning – 11 hours
• Supervised clinical practice in small and/or large groups – 14 hours
• Self-reflective journal writing – 4 hours
• student-focused activities encouraging active participation,(including tutorials, accessing electronic systems and support staff for data, literature, resources and contacts) – 7 hour.
Guided Independent Study is considered to include:
• Personal Therapy attendance with a trained professional and personal reflection (60 hours total)
• Clinical supervision preparation, attendance and reflection with a trained professional (60 hours total)
• Assignment preparation (30 hours per module)
RESOURCES
• Access to an approved placement which provides suitable learning opportunities, and a suitably qualified supervisor to provide the required ratio of supervision hours to clinical practice
• Access to recording equipment
• Access to a suitably qualified therapist to provide the required sessions of personal therapy
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Critically evaluate and reflect upon 40 hours of personal therapy with a suitably qualified therapist and effectively communicate your growing self-awareness and limitations through your personal learning journal.

2. Critically evaluate and reflect upon 75 hours work with clients and 30 hours of Supervision and communicate this effectively through your ongoing clinical log. Recognising the limits of your knowledge and understanding of Humanistic and Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

3. Demonstrate qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment and/or further training including acquisition of new competencies that will require the exercise of your personal responsibility and decision making and will enable you to assume responsibility within a placement organisation.

Please note: Students who have achieved a minimum of 30 hours of clinical work at the end of year 2, but less than 75 hours, will be eligible to proceed (but not progress) into year 3 as long as all supervision and personal therapy hours have been achieved.
