Indicative Content
This module supports participants in developing skills in professional case formulation. It provides an overview of roles in the helping professions i.e. psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, psychotherapists etc. Participants are facilitated in the development of knowledge and skills that will enable them to support children and young people with emotional or mental disorders. The biological, psychological and social models of understanding children’s mental health will be explored along with theories of child development and attachment.
Assessment Details
Summative - Presentation of 20 mins duration on one named illness / disorder affecting children from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM 5) – including proposed treatment and support and a suggested intervention plan.
A further 10 minutes will be allocated at the end of the presentation for students to answer peer and tutor questions. (Weighted at 100%). (LO 1 4).
Formative - Q and A, discussion, peer evaluation and feedback, self-evaluation, reflective journal, quiz, presentation, debate, work-sheets, role-play.
