ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative
Coursework – 3,500 words - weighted at 100 % (Learning Outcomes 1 - 3).
Students will be asked to critically evaluate how theories of counselling are applied to counselling
clients experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in a theoretical or practical context. Ethical issues will also be addressed.
Formative – Q and A, discussion, peer evaluation and feedback, self-evaluation, reflective journal,
role-play, quiz, presentation, debate.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The purpose of this module is to develop learner knowledge and understanding of theories of counselling and key ideas and concepts within counselling models that are applied to counselling clients experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This module explores the historical background to PTSD; it focuses on cultural responses to trauma, therapeutic approaches to counselling clients experiencing PTSD, client assessment and the process of therapy as well the use of specific counselling skills. Ethical practice is also discussed.
