INDICATIVE CONTENT
A selection of multivariate analyses will be covered in depth: looking at the designs they are appropriate for, how to conduct them using statistical software and how to interpret and report their results. Topics to be covered may include ANCOVA and regression. Information on presenting research findings for different audiences will be covered.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Report (LO 1-4)
A report of an analysis on a large quantitative data set using one of the multivariate analysis techniques
covered in the module. This must include a formal academic lab report, with supporting commentary and a short summary written for a lay audience. (100%)
Formative Assessment:
Formative feedback will be given during the workshops while the exercises are being worked through.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
On this module you will learn via a mixture of face to face lectures and workshops, drop in assessment support session and independent study. Each week, between sessions, students will be expected to complete any workshop exercises that they did not complete in the sessions. Within the specified contact hours there will also be assignment support sessions to read and to work on the report assessment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Deploy accurately an appropriate advanced psychological quantitative research method covered in the module to answer a research question
Apply advanced level screening using established techniques to a quantitative data set
Using a statistical package to analyse, provide evidence to support interpretations on an advanced quantitative data set
Interpret and accurately report the results, and limitations of, advanced quantitative psychological research for both an academic and lay audience
