Module Additional Assessment Details
The portfolio will contain an Abstract of around 300 words, the previously assessed work and a reflective commentary.
The viva examination is usually assessed by two examiners: an External and Internal Examiner. Both will be Registered Health Psychologists and will be experienced in research in at least one general area of your portfolio. The viva examination usually lasts between 1 and 3 hours. In order to pass the viva examination, students are required to:
- Provide evidence of critical evaluation of knowledge at the forefront of the discipline.
- Demonstrate the ability to create and interpret new knowledge, and to present this at a standard suitable to satisfy peer review.
- Demonstrate that he/she has acquired the skills necessary to practice as a Health Psychologist, including practising with regard to ethical principles, reflectivity, and accepting accountability for decision making.
- Mount a defence of the work undertaken clearly outlining its originality and contribution to the discipline.
- Discuss the theoretical and applied relevance of his/her work.
- Talk in a clear and coherent manner about all aspects of the portfolio.
Module Indicative Content
The viva provides an opportunity for students to discuss the work they have undertaken with two Registered Health Psychologists, at least one of whom will be working in the general area of the portfolio.
