Module Indicative Content
This module focuses on the practical process of conducting research within the NHS, social care and related clinical settings, with a particular focus on relevance and application to clinical psychology. Content includes research governance, the independent peer review process, gaining access to research sites/participants, and the process of gaining ethical approval to carry out the research. Dedicated workshops are held on writing a literature review paper and writing a research report to the standard required for submission to a peer reviewed journal; writing an accompanying commentary/reflective review of the research; and preparing material for publication. Attention will also be given to the use of research supervision and to the oral defence of the thesis.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will be required to complete 1 piece of summative assessment which addresses outcomes 1-6. All elements of the assessment must be attempted.
Thesis (typically between 16,000 and 20,000 words) comprising:
a) 2 publishable papers in format for submission to identified peer reviewed journals:
i) Literature review
ii) Research report (LOs 1,2,3,6)
AND
b) 1 Commentary/reflective review of research process (LOs 4, 5)
AND
Viva voce examination (LO 6)
Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via structured written feedback identifying strengths, weaknesses and guidance for improvement. Specific guidance will be provided on what material should be included in the commentary/reflective review in relation to the other 2 papers
