Module Details
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Trainees will be required to complete 2 pieces of summative assessment. Both elements must be passed.

1) Examination (50% weighting) (addressing LO's1 and 2)

Trainees will complete a 2 hour invigilated examination which will cover research methodologies and processes studied in the module

2) Literature review (50% weighting) (addressing LO's 3 and 4)

The literature review assignment will form part of the Research Thesis which is submitted in Year 3. The paper will be written in the format specified by a targeted journal and be written to a publishable standard. The paper should be no more than 8,000 words.

There is a formative submission opportunity for the literature review assignment.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
Teaching includes a mix of lectures, workshops and computer laboratory sessions. Research topics, process, governance, ethics, and advanced statistical and qualitative methods and techniques will be explained, discussed and explored/practised. Research approaches included will be questionnaire design and analysis, multiple regression, analysis of variance, single n designs, narrative or discourse analysis, IPA and grounded theory. Advanced research governance will be covered by means of mandatory Good Clinical Practice training (certificated).

There will be focused teaching around conducting a systematic literature search and conducting/ writing a literature review.
