Module Details
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A group presentation of a Community Health Profile of 20 minutes duration plus 10 minutes for questions, weighted at 30% (assessing LO's 1, 2 and 3)
The group presentation, to peers and tutors, will involve the profiling of a community area identifying and exploring aspects relating to the health of the community

An individual reflective essay of 1500 words based on a health issue identified within the Community Health Profile, weighted at 70% (assessing LO 4)

The essay will enable the student to reflect on the impact to health of an issue identified during the compilation of the community profile. This could have a health, social or leisure focus.

Formative assessment will consist of:
i) Group tutorial on the development of the community health profile
ii) group tutorial on the development of the reflective essay
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the wider aspects of health and well being and the influences that impact on the individuals¿ health including the complexity of health and illness at the level of the population, local community, family and the individual.

Determinants of health and the inter-relationship between physical, social, mental and spiritual health
Health profiling: concepts and terminology of profiling, the profiling process, data collection- What needs to be collected, interpreting the data- what do the facts and figures mean
Identifying health needs- what is it about the community that is affecting health, setting priorities and planning interventions to meet the identified needs from health, social and leisure perspectives
The role of public health and the concept of epidemiology
