Assessment 1

Case Study

In this assessment, you will produce a 2,000-word case study that critically analyses a global public health issue of your choice. You will examine the global health policies, governance structures and health system arrangements that shape the international response to this challenge. Your analysis should explore these systems from multidisciplinary perspectives, drawing on political, economic, epidemiological, environmental and social insights to provide a comprehensive examination of their strengths and limitations.

A central focus of the task is to evaluate the digital innovations and data driven approaches relevant to monitoring, coordinating and improving responses to the selected issue. This may include the use of digital surveillance platforms, modelling tools, global data repositories, artificial intelligence applications or geospatial systems. You should assess their effectiveness, ethical implications, feasibility, equity considerations and the extent to which they enhance or constrain global health governance.

Your case study will also consider how international organisations, national governments, regional bodies and non-state actors contribute to the policy landscape, highlighting areas of policy coherence, fragmentation or gaps that require strategic action. You are expected to draw on high quality academic evidence, global health policy frameworks and relevant reports to justify your critique and recommendations.

Rationale

This assessment develops advanced analytical and critical reasoning skills by requiring you to synthesise multiple perspectives on global health policies, governance and systems. It mirrors the work of global public health policymakers and implementers who must interpret complex policies and understand the decision-making processes within global and public health institutions. Through this task, you will strengthen your ability to evaluate contemporary global health challenges and propose evidence informed responses that reflect expectations for depth, rigour and critical judgement based on public health policies and systems.

Assessment 2

Reflection

For this assessment, you will produce a 1,000-word reflective analysis that examines your leadership practice in relation to global health systems. You will articulate how your leadership style, management skills and professional behaviours influence your ability to design, implement and evaluate solutions in global health contexts. Your reflection should explore competencies such as negotiation, coordination, resource stewardship, strategic decision making and change management, and how you applied these within complex global health systems.

You are expected to draw on an appropriate reflective framework, such as Gibbs, Rolfe or Driscoll, to structure your analysis. You will consider how your personal values, communication strategies, cultural awareness, and previous experiences shape your engagement with global public health challenges. Your analysis must demonstrate insight into your strengths and development needs and identify concrete actions to enhance your leadership capability in future global health work.

Rationale

This assessment nurtures reflective practice and personal development, both essential for effective leadership in global health. It enables you to critically examine how your leadership identity, decision making and interpersonal skills influence your capacity to deliver solutions within complex global health systems. By linking theory to lived experience, this assessment supports your development into a reflective and adaptable leader who can navigate the political, structural and ethical complexities of global public health.
