Module Learning Strategies
This module incorporates three inter-related learning strategies. The six day long workshops will used for the consideration of the core issues and key tools used within performance coaching and mentoring relationships. The workshops will consist of short lectures, discussions, case studies and observed skills practice triads/dyads. The tutorials will allow discussion of the individual research that students are undertaking to prepare their portfolios and support study skill development. The independent study will allow reading around selected topics, critical analysis and portfolio development.

Module Indicative Content
This module explores the key theoretical perspectives that underpin performance coaching and mentoring practice. We consider the distinctions between performance coaching, mentoring and other helping relationships such as counselling and advising. We will observe the developmental phases of a coaching/mentoring relationship, including beginnings and endings and consider the core conditions required for the relationship to maximise effectiveness. We will consider learning preferences and how this impacts the mentoring/coaching relationship. There will be structured exercises and case study material to develop the skills and critical understanding of application with consideration to moral dilemma's and ethical practice. We will explore change management principles relating this to both organisational and individual transformation. We will consider giving and receiving feedback and how this relates to the process of change.
