One assignment essay at 2500 words [Learning Outcomes 1,3,4]

We begin by exploring different ideologies and theoretical debates which have informed the development of welfare provision. We go on to consider key areas of welfare which focus on social care, including the nature and development of the National Health Service; the nature and development of state social work; the policy and practice of community care. We continue by exploring the relationship between social care and social control by looking at key client groups and the role of welfare services in their support.

20 hours will be taken up with class contact with another 6 hours available for introductory sessions, assignment tutorials and individual tutorials. 274 hours will be guided independent learning. Whole group contact will consist of lectures. Part group contact will consist of sessions exploring key issues prepared for by students in advance and in preparation for assessment. Independent learning will involve preparing for part group sessions, following up of issues via learning resources and preparation for assessment.
Seminar work will be structured around video material, worksheets, case studies and discussion groups. There will be an introductory session and an assignment tutorial to prepare students for assessment and familiarise them with study skills and academic conventions in the presentation of assignments. Individual tutorial support will also be available for students.
