Module Learning Strategies
This module will consist of 300 hours , of which 26 hours will be class contact (12 hours as whole group contact and 12 hours of part group contact and 2 hours of assignment preparation/support), and 274 hours of guided independent learning. Whole group contact consists of formal lectures. Part group contact will be more informal meetings based on guided discussion working through key issues prepared in advance by students and partly around preparation for assessment and guidance for independent work as well as guidance over source materials, print materials such as policy documents and newspaper articles and electronic sources such as the internet and CD ROMs. Independent learning will consist of preparation for part group sessions.
Module Indicative Content
This module will examine a variety of contemporary debates surrounding commercial sexual activity, including some of the following: differing theoretical discourses on sex work; issues of legislation and policy with regard to prostitution and pornography; the growth and implications of sex tourism; the international sex trade; juvenile prostitution; risk and safety with regard to sex work; historical dimensions of prostitution and pornography; issues of censorship and civil liberty.
